Dementia & Design

ENABLE FOUNDATION “design tools” enables citizens to co-create ‘dementia-freely’ communities.

Like many developed societies, a variety of Charities and NGOs in Hong Kong provide quality care services to address the physical, psychological and biological needs of People with Dementia (PwD) and their carers. Public policy makers and the social service sector develop ways to solve problems around dementia from medical and social perspectives.

ENABLE FOUNDATION believes the discipline of design (research & action) can tackle dementia matters differently, bringing together generations and professions to co-create a better future, innovatively and holistically.

Firstly, we translated PwD’s experiences into empathic tools to engage the public, enabling them to experience the parallel world of dementia and understand it as a culture and not a loss. Secondly, we launched everyday design tools for PWD, carers and trainers, to bridge the gap between the two worlds.

Our ambition is to enable communities to not just be dementia-friendly but “dementia-freely”, advocating dementia is OK!
